Hey am i am kind of new here but i've been reading posts for a little while. I have a little problem that has been giving me headaches for the past 4 days.
I got my 97 Explorer Limited V8 AWD (61k miles) barely over a year ago from a Ford dealer as a certified used vehicle, i even purchased the extended warranty (powertrain, for 3 years) at the time of purchase. Since then i have put just over 3,000 miles on the truck believe it or not (not my daily driver). I bought it from the dealer and got the warranty because i did not want to have problems from this truck and i trusted them to be selling me a reliable used vehicle. Well i just took the truck in the other day to the dealer to get a leaking pinion seal replaced and i had a few other items checked out as well, i was in shock to what i was told:
1) I have the notorious blend door problem, i called ford customer service and reported the problem but they informed me they had no open recalls or customer care programs for it. The guy was really nice and called the dealer to confirm the problems i was having and asked the service manager if there was any assitance he could offer but there was none... Estimate: $1,040
2) I was having a problem with the ABS acting up and letting up the pedal pressure right before i was at a complete stop, i've searched and found this to be a common problem. The dealer informed me i needed 2 new rear ABS sensors (i thought there was only one mounted on the differential??) and a new right front hub. Estimate: $1,055
3) I had never experienced any problems with this before but on the trip up to the dealer the "Check Air Ride" light came on. I told them about it when i got up there and the light apparently went away on their test drive, then just this morning i got another phone call from them. Apparently now i need 2 new rear shocks as well because mine are locked up
. The ride had been fine the day before, it just decided to crap out on me i guess. The ride home was definitely a lot worse than the ride up there thats all i know, i swear i almost hit my head a couple times
. Estimate: ~$800
The dealer already called the insurance company to check to see what was covered under the warranty but unfortunately only the pinion seal was since it was only a powertrain warrany. Ontop of that the information console/overhead console/cruise control are all now not working either, i'm hoping they just forgot to plug something back in because they were ALL working fine when i took it in.
My question is am i right in assuming i shouldn't have to deal with $3k in repairs after purchasing a Certified used truck from a Ford dealer and putting just 3k miles in one year? I talked to the service manager today in person and he was very nice and understood my problems and told me to take the estimates and go straight to the used car manager and ask him to cover the repairs. Unfortunately the used car manager was not in so i have to go tommorw morning to talk to him. how should i approach him and can you give me some points to emphasize to get him to understand my situation and why i'm upset? I am curently a full-time college student and i could have easily saved $2k at the time of purchase by going to a private seller but i wanted some reassurance that i would not have these ridiculous repair bills later on (isn't that why people go through dealers anyway??). Thanks for reading
