I just joined today! Thanks for having me . Looks like a really great site. My 1999 Explorer has been in the shop since Dec.23 2010 , It starts but idle ruff and the stalls . If I give it throttle it stalls. Water drips from the exhaust pipe sortly after it starts . The mechanic says it is running very rich .
The fuel has been changed , fuel filter , fuel pump, oxigen sensers , DPFE sensor , spark plugs , exhaust system checked for blockage and the PCM replaced. No change to how it runs . Now they are checking the timeing chains and valve train . Has anyone experienced this problem and does the mechanic seem to be doing the correct diagnostics?
Would appreciate any responses .
thanks, gonehome

G'day and welcome.

Howdy from NC.

Water vapor, and even a small drip from the tailpipe is normal, caused by exhaust condensation. If it's more than a "little" or doesn't go away, then it may need to be investigated.

re: your other questions, you may have better responses if you posted a new thread in the appropriate forum...

Welcome Gonehome,
Sounds like your mechanic is guessing at what is wrong with your truck! You don't indicate any "Check Engine Light" (CEL) or fault codes--do you have any.

I would recommend you troll the sight getting smart on timing chains and valve train and see what the indications of bad ones are (does it match your condition) and when the chains or valve train were repaired what it did to the truck regarding improving the performance. In fact when the mechanic recommends a fix, come check it out here.

Your truck is not new, are you the original owner? How many miles? If you bought this second hand, it was not well taken care etc etc....you may have a big problem on your hands. I'm guessing you are into the mechanic for beyond $600 so far?

Finally, Farmtruk is correct, go start a new thread in the correct area with a thread title about your problem, you'll get better hits than just "hello"

Goodluck getting this fixed and hope it doesn't cost too much

welcome

Why thank you! They say they checked the pressure regulator . I left a message about the MAF and Ect waiting to hear from them . When I first took it in they said they found 12 trouble codes they didnt say what ones . They say they have gone through all of them .
Why would they remove the valve covers to check for a broken spring . before doing a compression check? I dont get it!
thanks , gonehome

post all the codes to help with the diagnosis.
