My wife was driving back from a nursery in Pasadena, CA - buying some cactii for our new home, and on the I-10 FWY, she feels this loud "Whump! Whump! Whump!" from her 31" BFGoodrich All-Terrain KO , and then she hears this loud screaching noise, and then, she looses power.
A motorist directed her to exit the freeway, and she quickly pulled over to inspect the damage. What happened was a Christmas Tree Light punctured her BFG AT/KO through the tread section, causing a deflation. The deflation in turn caused the tread separation of her tire which was spinning at 65 m.p.h. All that was left was a deflated carcass of a tire with a Christmas Tree Light embedded in it.
Suzanne had to drive on the Mickey Thompson Classic II rim for several hundred feet, throwing sparks, and causing motorists to go wild with anxiety. Down at America's Tire, her BFG AT/KO was pro-rated, mounted, and balanced for just $44. The tech said that this was a "Miracle" that she didn't have an accident since, "Most women don't know how to drive out of a situation like this." She explained that her Wrangler didn't pull to any side or begin to handle erratically.
I'm just glad she made it home safely...
The Mickey Thompson Classic II rim shows absolutely no signs of damage, and it is holding air just fine. This all happened on the passenger-side rear tire/rim.
