Guys,
Being that I wanted to get a billet grille eventually I thought I'd change my hood latch to the 98 (between grille and hood-style). I went to a junkyard and for $10 I got the hood latch and safety release (that goes on the hood). Here's a pic...

Had to drill a couple of holes to get the safety latch secured but here it is. No the bolts don't show from the outside :D

Also, I had a spare K&N filter from my other car...

So I had my friend make up this flange for me. 3.5" opening to mate up to the MAF meter....

Here it is installed. What a nice change...

My next step is finding out which Ford 17" wheels will bolt right up then probably a shift-kit.
If anyone has a recommendation for a billet grille I'm all ears...:D

Dude, you gotta file all those sharp edges off then I can give you an A. Saw some nice grilles in the JC Witney catalog. I like them rather conservative, but they had some wild ones to. Can't help you with which 17 inch wheels to use. I have 17s on mine and love the way they look.

I forgot to mention that I'm going to get a new plastic cover from a 98 so those edges should be gone.
Thanks for the JC Whitney info.

Does anyone know if the factory optional Expedition 17" rims will fit? Are they five bolt or six bolt? Probably can be found pretty cheap.

Lou, did you measure the MAF housing diameter? I always wondered if it was 53, 58, 60, 65, 70mm or what Ford chose from the parts bin.

Nice adapter idea.

Expedition wheels will be the same as F150 wheels............and those are ........um......5 X Something Weird. Definately not 5x4.5 tho. 98GT-40P, there is a recent thread about TB sizes, OHVs are 58mm, and SOHCs are 65mm.

Well I'm into my 3rd mod. I've only had this Mountaineer 3 weeks so far.

Why can't I leave anything stock? :p Any guesses as to what these wheels are from?

I liked the look of the stock wheels too. The only problem I had with them was all of the tire flex because of the huge sidewall height. Plus I had these sitting around collecting dust. ;)

well... what better reason to mo? i had them just sitting there... NOW THATS REDNECK.... but its ok.. im the same way :) anyway looks good..... nice intake filter deal... nice truck in general..... you need to lower it though.... the mustang rims look puny under it...
