It's coming winter and i need to get this fixed. I have no idea what is wrong. No matter what i push whether it be auto or vent or whatever....no heat. Anybody with a solution? I have searched all over and no other topics pertain to me. Only thing i can figure is the heating core. But that's just a guess. Thanks in advance...

Just a guess here. Check out your heater control valve. It's on the passenger side in the engine compartment. It has four hoses going to it and a vacuum line. It's cheap and easy to replace. Maybe the vacuum line came off. I'm assuming here that the fan is working and you just aren't getting any heat from it. I hope it's not the blend door for your sake.

Good Luck

Oh ya it's still blowing air just not hot air. I've checked most of the hoses. I've heard about that blend door and realize that it's not cheap. Fill me in a little more on the subject.

Do a search on blend door

I just posted a couple of days ago how to do a temporary fix - Blend door - so you're cold cheap and lazy.

sounds like blend door to me...mine only blows hot air, your blend door is stuck in the cold position while mine is stuck in hot.

Well just got my car back from ford yesterday. And yes the problem was the blend door. So they replaced that and the plenum.

As for the wipers it was the GEM (generic electronic module). They replaced that.

All in all the damage was $983.00

My dad wanted ford to do it though. So if any of you have these problems know what's coming to you.

just out of curiosity, how long did they hve your explorer?

Ouch! This is why I hate going to the dealers. I have used them more times than I care to admit, but now that I have an extra vehicle, I'm investing in FIY knowledge and tools. The dealers always know how to find the most expensive solution to any problem. You usually will never know if they could have fixed it with 10 minutes labor and a 10 cent part when its a 3 hour fix and a $100 part (or worse).

No cost fix

There is someone posting on ford-truck.com on the Explorer forum right now that has a method of repairing it without removing the dash or buying a new door/plenum. You have to remove the actuator to do it, which he says just pops out. Funny, last time I looked, I thought it had screws and no clearance to get at them. He will email you plans. Maybe someone could post these diagrams here.
