I just got a new 91 explorer. And the only insurance company that will give me a quote under 300 a month is the one my parents are threw. I currently pay $215, a month..... and my damn car payment is only $160. Does anyone know about a comapny besides progressive. or gieco? They both gave me a quote for over $300 a month, I also have never wrecked or recieved any tickets. Any insurance adjusters out there?

about the same numbers here, dont worry about it. my insurance is like $225 WITH A 16 YR OLD, and a 99 SPORT. oddly the sport is cheaper on insurance. but my car payments are $150. so mine is worse.

Dont feel too bad cause when I was 17 I had a 97 ranger and it cost me $350/month for insurance plus my $345 truck payment. Needless to say I sold it. I really liked it too.

Agents often turn people to Progressive because major cariers won't endorse their high risk policy and by law, someone has to...in comes Progressive and the others. Keep shopping for a lower rate thought. I had State Farm for years and I switched to MetLife and saved $110 a year. You might try Shelter Insurance also.

Get your parents to get their homeowners policy and auto policy out on the table and call a bunch of agents and ask for quotes. You need the policies there to tell what the coverages you now have are to compare. I dont know about Wash. but it is cheaper in many states if you have home/renters & auto with the same co. Stay on your parents policy as you will also get a multicar discount.
Spending a couple of hours shopping each year can generaly save a lot of $$.

You didn't say if you were still in school, but State Farm gives a substancial discount to students with a certain grade point average. My son (20) pays $110 a month for full coverage on his '97 Ranger 4X4.

Another way you can save money is to increase your deductables on your collision and comprehensive coverage (I assume you have collision since you mentioned a car payment). You have to weigh what the car is worth versus the amount of money you're willing to dish out to fix it. A $500 deductable would be a lot cheaper than say a $50 or $100 deductable.

I have two Explorers and they are fairly cheap to insure, at least here in Nebraska, so I don't think the make of vehicle is what is driving your insurance cost.

Given your clean driving record, I think you could do better than $215 / month.

Well, the young punk thing isn't helping. :)

Check into the State Farm good student discount. If you're in school and are getting A's and B's, you get a huge discount.
Also, get a higher deductible and drop stuff you won't need like rental insurance.
Just shop around and see who'll give you the lowest quote.
Other than that, all you can do is wait until you get older.

BTW, I'm 19 (20 in less than a month), never had a ticket, have more than one car on the same insurance (I'm on with my parents), a $250 deductible, full coverage, and pay around $220 every 6 months with State Farm. So $300 a month is WAY too much.

I'm 17 and drive a 92 sport. I pay $45 a month for full coverage on mine. State Farm I think.

Go to Taggart's or something like that. It costs like $350, is a total waste of time, and you learn absolutely nothing. But right after you do it, you immediately get 10% off you insurance.

Also, I don't know about Washington, but Georgia has a state run course thats like 6 hours long, costs $50, and you get an additional 10% off on top of the 10% from Taggart's. That's the direction I'm heading

I pay about 180 for mine, that's with the 10% renters insurance discount ($10 a month out of the 180 is for that) and the 10% car alarm discount and a 10% multi car discount. It is through general casualty. I am only 20 too with a speeding ticket and a going through a red light, too many warnings to remember! That's about half my car payment. I didn't even read my policy, but I found out my stereo is also covered if someone breaks in and steals it.
You also have to look at how long it takes them to proccess your claim. When my mom and I got hail damage, I got my check the day after I got my estimate and she got her's two weeks after her estimate. They told her what place to get it at also and I had a choice so I went to the most expensive place in town :D
Since you prob. live with your parents they have to be on your policy and that also brings your payments down, in some cases if you live with someone who is a high risk driver that can increase your premium. They still have to be on your policy even if they don't drive your vehicle.

Thanks alot

Sorry i never replied I have been Very busy. I got all my new parts in the mail, needless to say me and my truck are now bonded. Does anyone know of a good broker in SPokane Washignton? I have tried to find some but all i could find are the high risk ones and im not high risk am I?

Please tell us more about this.

What are you calling "full coverage"?

What deductable?

Thanks....

Depending on the region you live in, you pay more or less. I live in NY... insurance companies tend to rape us New Yorkers. I pay 160 a month for 9 months. Thats a very good rate for up here and for people my age (20).. I actually use a company from georgia called Windsor Group. I have had my share of tickets and there is an accident on my record as well, but im stilling getting a good rate... look em up on the web and see if they service your area. By the way, geico are a bunch of theives... they wanted 1600 every 6 months from me.. i payless then that in a year!!!!!

low insurance

It's because my family has a vehicle plan thing because we have like 4 cars. It's a good deal. Not sure how it all works. I just know I pay for all of mine.

Thank you all for your input, But like someone said eirlier about my age. When you hit 25 it is drasticaly reduced. I think im going to have to just pay out the ying for now.
Here is an interesting fact. You know how women get a lower rate cause they're women? In 90% of colision repair it is women bringing in vehicles, I don't know if they wrecked them ( I like to think so.) hehe, Or they are the one to bring it in. But that statistic alone should bring that issue back to the table of negotiation.

If you don't have any tickets you should be able to get farmers or statefarm for about half of what progressive will get you, I know, I've done it.

$215 a month isn't as bad as you might think. Heck when I was 17 I had my brand spankin new 4x4 98 F-150. My monthly payments were about $400 and my insurance payment was over $300. That was with one ticket and one accident. Teenagers never like being told they are unsafe drivers but the fact of the matter is that most of them are, and that is why these insurance prices for teens are so outlandish. It's not that the insurance companies just like jacking teenagers around, but teenagers cause many accidents so they have to be able tot urn a profit, and that means charging a higher rate.
The fact of the matter is that most teenagers like to show off. Whether its to impress their friends or the girls in the car next to theirs, it's always for some stupid reason and it often results in accidents and worse, loss of life. Once people get older they get over that a little bit (I still do it on occasion, heh heh) and they have less accidents, thus they pay less.
Just as an FYI, I di da lot of shopping around and found Progressive to be my best deal. I am insuring my 2000 F-150 with a $500 deductable, and my Explorer with collision only, and I believe its now about $2300 for a years coverage (about $200 a month)

I am rather curious.... How do you young teenagers get the money to make truck payments as well as that expensive insurance?

Thanks....

Depending on what state you're in you may not be able to do much, some states regulate their insurnance... But for the most part, grin and bear it for now, it gets better. My insurance isn't too bad (20 in a month, 1 speeding ticket 2 or 3 years ago [off my record now, 2 years in WV]), I pay $480/6 months on the Explorer and about 115 a month on the Mach, but I have classic car insurance on that... You'll get deductions for things like grades, multi-line discounts, automatic retracting belts (sorry, no luck in Explorers), air bags, alarm systems w/ starter disables and/or some kinda theft recovery system like LoJak... Just check w/ your company, mine is really helpful and tryed to save me as much as they could.

As far as being able to afford 2 vehicles + insurance: I work one crappy job part time and make about 9 or 10 clams an hour, and on the side I do mechanic work and install car stereos... Not fun, lots of work, but like the saying goes, you gotta pay to play!
