Alright, I was about to install my dynomax bolt on exhuast kit today. The kit came with a muffler, and 2 different pipes. On my back pipe that has a lot of turns, there is a (i think its a catalak converter near the back pipe where exhaust comes out. There is no break in the pipe to put there. I just have 2 pipes, and the muffler, and the thing in front of the muffler go. Im not sure what that back thing, if it I have to leave it on or what. I need some help!

all that is, is a resonator on the factory exaust. you dont need it. ive heard that the resonator is more restrictive than the muffler? not sure that is true.

Yea that is the resonator, and you don't need it. From the pic, it looks like you need new tires. haha. lata

Ok, well I got it all in, after finally cutting a piece of bar on the old exhaust. Well the new fits good, except that the muffler, the way it is supposed to go, it doesnt fit right. So I turned it around and flipped it over, and it fits perfect. I just need to know if that is bad. I haven't turned the car on yet. I dont know if reversing the muffler like that is bad or what. I included a pic below (you may have to go to the site)

That might not be such a good idea. I'm not sure about the design of the Dynomax muffler, but some cut-aways, and drawings of perfomance mufflers, seem to be designed to allow exhaust to flow better in one direction than the other. This may cause some minor "back-pressure" problems. See if you can call a Dynomax dealer in your area, and get some tips from them. Maybe they can swap out the muffler for one that fits better, or give you advice on how to fit it in there better.

Ok thanks. I hooked it up, and drove around, and i get a low rumble like it should be. It sounds good. No back pressure.. what is backpressure?

Out of curiousity, what would happen if you took everything from after cat - back off and started the engine?

This probably isn't the best technical explanation, but backpressure is basically backed-up pressure. It is usually caused by restrictive pipes and mufflers which cause exhaust gasses to back-up in the system, and bog the engine to some degree. That is why performance mufflers are less restrictive, and give you more HP by allowing the engine to expell exhaust gasses easier. The muffler does exactly what its name implies, muffles the noise. If you take it off, your truck will be LOUD, and it might run a little sh*ttier.

you were right

Ok, well I went to get some dinner, when I left, and I started her up, I noticed a lot of exhaust game out the pipe. And when I came home, and turned her off, I noticed it bogged when I turned it off. I guess that is what back pressure is, thanks for telling me! I will try to see if i can take the muffler and fix it around tonight. Thanks man!

ahhhhh new problem. I un did the clamps that held the muffler to the pipes. But the muffler seems to be stuck. I need any ideas I can get!!!!

Check the muffler and see if there is one of the ends marked as "inlet". If it is, then that is the inlet side, no matter what. Also, did you reset the computer after you installed it? If not, disconnect your negative battery cable for at least 10 minutes, then reconnect it. Drive it around for a little while to allow the computer to re-learn your driving habits. I'm not sure what you can do to get the muffler off. You might want to try running the truck for a few minutes to let the pipes warm up, and hopefully expand a little. Then work the muffler around a bit and hope to free it, if the clamps didn't crimp it too much. Next idea is to go to a muffler shop, and have them do it. Good luck.

You mean you actually didn't start up your Explorer when you had the exhaust off? I couldn't resist when I was installing my Borla. :) The catalyc converters muffle the sound quite a bit so it sounds a lot better than you'd think it would. Go ahead and try it when you take the muffler back off. Cranking it up and tapping the gas a couple of times just to hear what it sounds like won't hurt anything.
