Ok, I'll start by telling Aldive that I bow to the post of yours...

The following is a list of modifications that have resulted in the mileage reported on my 99 4.0 SOHC:
Mobil 1 5 w 30 synthetic motor oil
Mobil 1 ATF in auto tranny ( a complete change )
Mobil 1 in the 3.73 rear end
KKM Tru Rev intake
Custom cat back exhaust system
Remove roof rack
Many coats of Zaino polish
Tire pressure 40 psig
Explorer Express X Spec air dam
Amoco 87 octane gas
Secondary tranny filter ( don?t know if this helps )

Driving habits help also:
No race like starts
Windows up always - usually with AC on
Keep top speed at or below 70 MPH

Ok, I'll start by telling you what I'll do to get better gas mileage...

All synthetic fluids
Where do I get the KKM Tru Rev intake???
Which exhaust should I buy?
Don't have roof rack
Tire pressure is at 32, but will put at 40
Where do I get an air dam (Explorer Express doesn't have one for my 91 xlt)
Don't have an amoco near me
No race like starts anymore (I have a hot rod for that)
Windows are always down, but can change
Don't have a whole lot of room around here for 70+ mph anyways

Ok, can you guys please answer my questions here and tell me some more that I could do to get better gas mileage??? Plus, I would like to get it to look alot better, what else could I do for a good price (I'm only 16)...

The KKM intake is from Kurtz Kustumz. www.kustomz.com

As for the airdam, I found 2 different ones at EE for 91-94's or do they not have any in stock?
Xspec (like a limited) #WX691020 $229.95
Flex # AA5873 $249.95
Other then that you can search auto wreckers for one or you could try posting in the for sale/wanted section.

The 1st gen body style is not going to help your mileage.

Go to your local muffler shop and have them make you a custom cat back exhaust.

Good luck....

An Apten chip set up for mileage will definately help as will an electric fan.

Is it really worth adding a couple miles per gallon after spending $500+?

I'm making my own Open Air Intake as soon as I finish this reply! I figured out how, but until I get a conial filter, it'll be interesting looking... I'll post pics as soon as I'm done today... But, I was also wondering if something bad would happen if I took the muffler off and ran open exhaust minus the cat? Would this burn out the 02 sensors??? I just want to take the muffler off, but would weld more pipe in place of the muffler so it would still be as long as normal... I'm out to make an Open Air Intake right now, so I hope before I cut the muffler off, you guys will reply if there is dissadvantages to it... Thanks, Skyler...

Taking the muffler off will only get you a ticket. It will sound like crap too.

By no means should you remove the cat.

Ok, my friend builds exhaust systems (including headers, but I don't have the money for those yet) so I have decided to have him build me one for his cost and some to boot... What should I have him build? I want the most gas mileage possible just to see how much I can get... It'll be a cat-back, but what muffler, size of pipe, etc. do I have him use??? I don't know anything about exhaust systems, so help me out...

I doubt if the muffler will make much if any difference in mileage. Get the one whos sound you like best.

I use 2.5 inch pipe from the cat back.

I'll do that, but also, I thought about taking the power steering belt off because I like non-power steering, makes the vehicle feel like a big go-kart in my opinion... Would my pump go out if I took the belt off? Or anything else bad happen?

It would be a ***** to drive w/o the PS, in my opinion. I wouldn't do it.

ISnt the PS pump run off the serp belt? Secondly your pump will go bad that way as the seals will dry out eventualy. The X isnt verry fun without PS trust me i know

Oh, well I have a 1983 chevy silv. that I have a 434ci built up for it and I've taken the power steering pump completely off of it, and LOVE IT... I was just curious, lol
