99 Eddie Bauer v6 4.0
I have a 1999 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer with the 4.0 sohc v6 and automatic awd. It has 142,000 miles on it and is sucking the life out of my pockets. within the last year i had the transmission rebuilt(broken band), i replaced the rearend, replaced a couple of u joints, and had to buy a set of tires. And now this...
i noticed a vibration at highway speeds that i could have sworn was due to the u joints. i replaced them and it still continued to vibrate. i was driving my exploder a few days later and while driving on the freeway i noticed the od/ off light begin to flash. the vibrations worsened and the transmission felt a little rough when changing gears. When i turned my truck off and restarted it the light did not come back on. so i shrugged it off and drove home. about fifteen minutes into the drive home, the od/ off light started flashing again and the vibrations continued to get worse. by the time i reached my house the vibrations had progressed to the point where i thought my truck was going to rattle itself apart! this is my only transportation and i cant afford a new vehicle. can anyone please help?

I can't help you much other than to tell you that the dreaded flashing overdrive light is oftentimes a sign of impending transmission failure. My light began flashing and I needed a rebuilt a month or so later.

My Explorer (also 99 Explorer Eddie Bauer, SOCH V6) had the OD flashing occur last year, but no vibration as you describe. There was also no code to be pulled.

It flashed again a few weeks again, again with no ill effects.

Knock on wood it's just a random PC error, and everything will continue to run well.
