The original t-case in my 93 shifted itself into 4 low while traveling at 55mph two years ago. We spent Christmas on the side of the road that year. I took the opportunity to convert to a manual case and have been very happy...until today.
I'm currently stuck in Grants Pass trying to figure out my next move.
We were motoring up Interstate 5 when I suddenly lost power. The motor wound up but I began slowing down. Made it to the side of the road but the truck wouldn't move in OD, D, 2, or 1. I put it into R and it started moving. Back to OD and away we went. Made it 20 feet before realizing that I was in 4 high (even though the shift lever hadn't moved). Tried to limp it to a gas station but didn't make it. Tried to coast down a hill in neutral but heard a horrible grinding sound and the truck locked up. Made it to the side of the road but now the truck won't move. Had to have it loaded up on a flat bed. The front wheels rolled but the rears dragged.

I'm about 200 miles from home in a hotel wracking my brain.

Anyway, that's my story.

it's not the t case this time, it's the transmission,,

What makes you think that? Because the rear wheels wouldn't roll? The T-case was buzzing really bad before it happened.
Any suggestions on how to diagnose this? Guess it could be time for a M5OD...

you said,,

put the t case in between shift points, it will find a neutral kind of, than push it a bit, see if it moves than,
i found that 1/2 way between 4 low and 2wd there is a place where there will be no t case engagement,,

Yeah, did that. Even with the case and tranny both in neutral the rear wheels won't move.

i am thinking you need to take out the driveshaft next, see what that does,, if you still can't move it, it's the ring and pinion,

Yep, it's the case. Removed the rear drive line and the truck rolled fine.

Guess I'll try to rebuild it. Found a kit for 53 bux.
