Well I was 4 wheeling in Moab over Easter weekend and when I got off the trail my signals wouldn't work at all. They've done this before but it's always been because of a bad flasher. The lights would come on but would just stay on. They wouldn't blink. Now they don't come on at all. The hazard lights are still working which means the bulbs are still good and the flasher is still good. I speant the last two days taking everything apart including the combination switch assembly and couldn't find anything wrong. Don't ever take that piece of crap apart unless you are getting a new one because it is a bit of a trick to get back together. Well I looked at the wire diagram in the Chiltons manual but I still can't figure it out. I really need help on this one!!

Here's the wiring diagram on autozones website.

When you put the blinker on and the indicator stays lit.. that means you have a bulb out on that side. Is that what you mean by 'bad flasher'?

Try fuse # 10 &/or check bulbs.

The hazzard lights operate off a differnt flasher I believe. I think either you have one bulb burnt out on both sides, the flasher is loose, or it is bad.

Thanks for the replies, I had already checked all the fuses and I'll try a new flasher but I have a feeling that it's something else. Ok, when I turn the flasher on for the left and right side nothing happens at all. The hazard lights are wired to the same bulbs and when I turn the hazard lights on the same light bulbs that are used for the flasher/signal start flashing; so the bulbs are ok. I guess the only thing left that I know of is to test all the fuses to see if they have power. I don't think it's a fuse either though because everything else that I'm aware of has power. I checked all the connections that go into the combination switch and they're all fine. I just thought about this but it seems that I am pretty much screwed!!!

Well now only the left hazard light is working. I know it's not the bulb because I switched them and the right one still doesn't work. And the windshield washer fluid pump stopped working too!! Could it be that the whole combination switch is bad? The one that controls the windshield wipers, brights, hazards, etc.? If that's the case I need to go to the junk yard but they only sell the whole steering column for $100 bucks. And I don't even know if that will work. Any more suggestions?

See, I told you that you should'nt use those things, you'll just wear em out and now they're all used up and broken. hehehehe

It sounds like the combination switch is gone:(

I hope it's just the combination switch so I can just pay the $100 and have an easy fix instead of looking for a bad connection somewhere.

So, was it your combination switch?

I'm having the exact same problem.

Yeah, the combination switch ended up being the problem. After I got it installed everything was fine. I ended up buying a new one from FordPartsNetwork.com. I would highly recommend buying one there instead of trying to find a used one like at the junkyard or something. Let me know if you have any more questions.
