Thought I would post some pictures of the system I just installed in my 02 Explorer. Nothing crazy or super loud but its more than enough for me, the HU is a Pioneer Avic F-90bt(I love it and have zero complaints), 2 12" Kicker shallow mount CVT's, a pioneer Class D GM-D8400M amp, and a 2 cubic foot sealed box that I made(still need to carpet it). By the way I have half a sheet of 3/4 MDF if any one wants me to make them a box or even buy the half sheet.

Also does anyone know where I can order carpet for the box that will match pretty closely with my carpet/seats.

those are some odd looking subs !! i like shallow mount subs... all the benefits of a bumpin system, but ample space for the normal day to day if needed...

since you custom made the box.. why dont you cut out a vent so they can " breath " better ???

I actually really like the look of the subs(I can see your point though the angle of the pic. makes them look weird), and 2 reasons I didnt build a ported box- A they are designed to work really well in a sealed box and B the box would have to be atleast 1 cubic foot bigger and I didnt want the box any higher, if it was any deeper it would start to cover up the speaker for the reverse sensing system, and obviously it cant be any longer seeing as its tight to both sides. Trust me when i say its way more than enough bass with the Gains correctly set. I got the subs and amp for a really good deal ($250 brand new for everything) and my plan was to put them under my seat but there was no way that was going to happen and have the proper volume inside the box. Im more than impressed with this set up, and especially for the price.

There is nothing wrong with sealed enclosure. Both sealed and ported have good and bad aspects. I myself prefer the stability, controll and forgiving roll off of a sealed enclosure.

just a thought ???...

you can't just cut a hole and expect it to sound good...the volume and tuning and port area must be correct or it will sound like crap.

If you are meaning to just cut a hole in the box to "breathe" better than it will sound like complete ass
