Ok so let me give you a little history first..I pulled a A4LD (4X4) from a explorer at the local wrecking yard for 50.00 dollars. I took home the trans and opened it up and to my suprise it had been gone thru not long ago as all the clutches still had the ink stamping on them and the bands did to. The trans was very clean inside and almost no sediments in the pan. So i thought what should i do buy a rebuild kit or just do a soft kit on it and install a new converter ( I didnt buy the converter with the trans from the wrecking yard). So I just bought the soft kit and converter and inspected every peice in the trans and replace any thing questionable. The only thing I found that needed to be replaced was the two servo's on the side of the trans. I bought both of them assembled the trans and figured out the little problem i had with the valve body (my own fault) the two square retainers in the V.B fell out while cleaning it. I droped out the old trans today (in the 104* AZ heat) and installed the new one and took it out for a test drive and I was very pleased with my results as everything seems to work good. This is the second A4LD trans I took apart and put back together (the first one in my 89 areostar w/3.0l) and it now has about 50k+ on it now and still going strong. I would like to thank all the guys on the board who has spent many hours figuring out these tranys and posting their info on here to help others. I hope that some time i can help anyone on here with info they may need. Thanks everyone............Mike.
