First off, we have a mechanic that is trustworthy and knowledgeable. It's a dad and son team who have quite a few years of experience between them. They'll give you all the time it takes and are very reasonably priced! They've done great work on more than a few of the family cars.
So we've been working on an annoying a/c problem. The first noticeable problem is that when I come to a stop and am in gear, say Drive, the compressor cuts out. Slap it into neutral at a stand still and compressor comes back on, drive off, park on, drive off, etc... The a/c will also periodically stop blowing through the vents, you can hear the air blowing hard around the blower unit, but nada or very little through the vents.
I had the egr system um, blocked off for awhile. Thinking the computer might be cutting out the a/c while going into diagnostics we decided to start replacing what was obviously wrong and start looking at the codes. EGR tube went in fairly painlessly, no more EGR Codes... yay. Drive about 8-10 miles and everything is running perfectly, a/c problem gone, check engine light comes back on around 10 miles out from fix and a/c problems come back instantly.
Take it back to the shop since I have some fun new information for the mechanic. He pulls codes again and found:
P1309
P1260
P1000
Also said that the computer says it's has "wide open throttle" anytime it's in Drive, or in gear. Which explains the cut out, we assume the Explorer has a system that cuts the a/c when you get down on the accelerator.
How many compenents will cause the computer to think the truck is running "wide open"?
I have never had any problems starting the vehicle, so have no clue what's going on with the anti-theft system and pulling 1260. Only time I had a problem starting the battery was dying, and I ended up replacing the starter solenoid and buying a new battery.
My mechanic said that Ford advises 1309 is a difficult diagnosis and should be dealt with at dealership. Our mechanic doesn't throw unneeded parts at you, and I don't really want to go back to that kind of mechanic/customer relationship, lol. We replaced the computer a few months ago thinking that went bad, and it may be bad again, but would be no charge to me if they need to toss another one in there.
I'm just trying to dig up a little more information for our mechanic before we hand my sick little baby Explorer over to him in a week.
Down with the STEALERSHIPS! (haha found that in one of the code threads and had to use it).
Any insights again would be greatly appreciated. The quicker I can get to the bottom of this w/o ever touching foot in another dealership, the quicker and get back to fixing my rear end and lifting the truck up just a hair.
I'll keep searching the forums too. ExplorerForum Rocks!!
