What is this spring hanging from the frame of my 2002 Explorer sport. The picture is of the driver's side, rear wheel area?

It's above the rear wheel assembly and just forward of the wheel hanging from the frame but not connected to anything. What was it supposed to be holding tension on?

Mine was the same way, Its supposed to hold the brake line. Got a new one at the junkyard for free

it's supposed to hold the left parking brake cable out of the way.

Thanks!

Do you think it's current state might cause a rotational clicking from this area? I hear it at around 20 mph and up and below 20 mph it disappears.

I just had my rear brakes changes and the clicking developed. I just thought I'd take the rear wheel off to see if there is anything obvious, but I suspect it's the parking brake assembly as I've read in other threads.

No idea how to take the caliper off, and probably beyond my skills. I'll take it back to the shop that did the work and let them figure it out. I just hoped it was something simple.

Sounds like the shop only did a pad slap and didn't bother removing the rotors to inspect the parking brakes. Likely a loose
or separated parking brake pad or hardware issue. Corrosion doesn't look too bad, hopefully the rotors will be easy to remove.
