Year, Model & Trim Level
'96 XLT
Hi gang,

Eventually I may trade in my '96... or keep it and just make payments on a new one... I'm looking at the site, and see this NBX series Explorer. Looks less business-class/soccer-mom'ish and was wondering if anyone has one, spec'd one out, test-drove it, etc.
I spec'd one for about $35k which has skid plates, some offroad packaging and some nice interior upgrades...

Let me know what you think, or did you know about this series X? It was off Ford's site and I didn't realize it existed. I was getting disenchanted about looking at the newer ones...

Thanks in advance for your input.

i went to the ford site and i couldn't find any info on the nbx sounds interesting though.

the nbx is just the xlt with different outside trim,

I like the look of the NBX a lot. Are you looking to get a 4wd or 2wd NBX?? The inside is a nicely optioned XLT with its own type of seats and the outside comes with 17' rims, skid plates, Yakima Load warrior safari basket, and from what I hear the 4wd system on the new X's is the best one ever.

Definitely getting the 4x4 model. :)
Yeah, I like the options on it.
The basket is nice but won't work with my Yakima kayak racks... UNLESS I use the old one to haul kayaks and use the new one to drive around in.... Hmmmmm. ;)

P.S. That link just takes you to one of the main pages also... it's tough to link INSIDE their site to get a look... try just building your own ford and you'll have an option to build the NBX.
I had a link too and tested it after I posted, same result. heh You'll just have to leg it to the page where you can see it, but it's worth a look if you ask me.

That's a nice trim package but where are the Firestone ATX's or Goodyear RS/T's? :D Are you looking at a V8 (you want a V8) or the V6 (you want a V8)?

Sorry, should've posted all that.
Yes, I'm going with the 4x4 and my quest for power, I will get the V-8. This time I will start out a big dog. WOOF!
I still want the 4door though... it's just more convenient to our lifestyle...
So in summary:
4x4
V-8
Prob Mineral Grey (I think was the color, somewhat limited)
I think I printed the specs at home.. will update this post later with the rest of the specs but it came out to about 35k. :P

ya the truck only comes in like 4 colors.. red yellow grey and silver? who the hell would want a yellow x? then agin.. it would stand out and noone has a yellow x! hmm.. ya know i might not want my mustang now i might take a look at the NBX v8 with 4x4!! wooo.. off to the deal i go after work..

Mike

i guess you can't get it in 2 door? I'm not to keen on the independant rear susp.

The only truck I would consider trading my truck for (if it ever comes out) is 3rd Gen 2WD 2DR V-8.

:in austin power voice: Yeah Baby!

I've riden in an Aviator, and was very impressed with the IRS, but the interior wasn't as nice as I had hoped for. I think the Explorer Limited is a better deal than the Lincoln. Only thing though is I think the Aviator uses the 4.6 DOHC instead of the SOHC...

I wonder if you can do a sas on the rear of the new explorers? How sweet would that be, i can see it now "I'll take one, and don't worry about the suspension, I've got my own i'm going to use, thanks."

Im not too impressed... :o

Funny, I had that one picked out as the one I would get if someone dropped some serious money in my lap, I have a printout from the site. It's a nice truck, but was kind of disappointed at the lack of color selections. Here's what mine would be:

I'm thinking chances are good I'll have this by Spring 04.

$34,410.00 $ Payments should be ~$48-75 more a month than I'm paying now... quite do-able.

I need your strength now.... I just paid off my X, but am so tempted to trade it in and/or get that NBX. I see V8's in my dreams (why I dont sleep much).
Trying to resist... perhaps I'll try to preoccupy my time/mind with Explorer Chat, or ... a nice thick chilton's manual... heh

Having a V8 is great, but I definately wouldn't mind being free of the car payment for a while.

you could use the extra 4-500 dollars per month to buy some stuff for the explorer you already have and make it better than the nbx!!!

Keep your 96, drop the money down on a Supercharger for the 4.0.
Forget the new Explorers, their cars now. (My opinion. I rented and drove one for 3 months. Hated it.)
They do ride smooth though.
