Well essentially, lifting has nothing to do with gears. It's the big tires you run after you lift that sometimes makes a gear change necessary. You may or may not have to do regear depending on the size tires you want to get, and your explorer's stock gearing. If you're in the market for a second generation explorer, look for a final gear ratio of 4.10:1. If you want a first generation, look for a final ratio of 3.73:1. If you have more questions just ask.

ok so how about this

what if i wanted to run 32s or 33s...

Well I guess it depends on your application. If you do alot of sustained highway driving 3.73's will be fine, but 4.10's would be an optimal compromise between acceleration and highway cruising. If you plan on running larger tires than that in the future, or you plan on going rockcrawling, you could also get 4.56's, however keep in mind your highway driving gas mileage will suffer with those.

..

I drive on the hight aobut 65 % of the time so you think with 32 or 33s (probaly 32s) i will be alright? Also how much does that cost to change the gears like that

Thank You

Well I'm runnign 3.73's with 32's now and it seems to be ok. But I'm making the change to 4.10's soon because I want the added acceleration. I'm doing most of the work myself, so I'm not sure what it would cost. I'm estimating around $700 for parts and labor.

Well alrighty

Thanks for all your help
