Hi. I just bought a used '02 EP and need a new key made. Is there any alternative to the $155.00 price tag quoted to me by the dealer? The price inlucludes remote.

Geeze....talk about legalized rape.

Just have one key

Wow that really sucks. Did you try a different dealer? My dad has a chip in his '02 Jetta, and the dealership only charged us $45 for a copy. Ah I love not having to worry about that. Just had 3 keys for my 97 x made, at $1.35 each!

what about lookin on ebay for a blank key...i see some on there sometimes...worth the look..espically if you don't need the keypad/remote

I just bought two keys off Ebay....one for my X, one for my wife's Tribute. We had two original keys to both so programming was a snap.

This is the guy I bought (PayPal) my keys from......good service. The Mazda key was (I think) $15 and the X key was a few bucks more. WalMart automotive cut 'em for free.

Check on eBay for the remotes too. I picked up a factory remote for my Town Car for around $20 and I programmed it myself. Dealer wanted $55 + charge for programming.

How do you program a remote yourself?

Also will the dealership program blank keys that are not sold through thier parts department?

Thanks,

wade

Some locksmith shops can program from a single PATS key; call around and ask.

OK dumb question: what is a PATS key?

Thanks,

Wade

PATS - Passive Anti Theft System; its the key with a chip in it.
