Told to get new shocks fo rmy '98 XLT 2wd, sohc V6. It has 58k on the odo and it is all city miles, a couple of road trips- nothing crazy. Got a quote for new Monroe Sensa Tracs for $330.00 installed. Yikes! Am I crazy, that seems a little steep- $80.00 per shock installed, but I need shocks- the tires are getting chewed up even after a full alignment. Give me the fruits of your shock experiences guys, I'd appreciate that. Man, I wish there a site like this for my MBZ, this site has been great! Casey

Gabriel VSTs are around $20 a shock and if you get them from Pepboys sometimes they'll install them for free. They're very good shocks for the money and many members swear by them.

Good luck!

I just bought Gabriel Gas Rydel LT's yesterday and I will tell you they were an improvement over some worn out monroe reflexes and I huge improvement over the stock shocks. They were a good buy at 24 bucks a piece. The only downside is that they are a little on the stiff side.

Guys, thanks! I never thought to try the Pep Boys angle, I'd do my shocks myself (I've lifted 3 trucks in the past), but time is scarce... If I used this X for anything special, I'd get more into the new shocks project, but I'd rather buy engine toys to go faster or boat toys....
