Hey Everyone...

Im new to this group and not sure if Im putting this in the right place or not..

I have a 96 Explorer Sport, grey leather, moonroof, power options.

and it has been broken into twice now, the first time they basically went after some stuff left out on the seat (yeah I may learn sometime :( ) but also took the tissue/change holder from the center console, (not just the change out of it, but the whole thing!)
The last time which was just this last Friday in daylight, with it parked right acorss the street from my home, they got the radio (it was an after market JVC something or other (It was in the truck when I bought it, I wanted to replace it anyway)

so what I need know is where or who I can buy a chnage holder from, also will a newer radio (would prefer factory cd/Tape/am&fm ) but can seem to find one that was made for a 96...
and if possible maybe update the mirrors (the ones with lights under them..) and a grey cargo area cover.

Thanks for any help you can give.
Email me directly if you like scottyt@skunky.org

Thanks
Scotty

Explorer express or a junkyard may have the tissue holder and the radio

Don't know about the lights

The gray cargo covers can be bought at www.performanceproducts.com and the Husky one withstand battery acid and are molded to your truck

Also, My friend took out his factory radio out of hid 96 XLT before it was stolen, and if you want I could find out if it was AM/FM, tape, and CD

Hope this helps!

Yeah I have to agree a junkyard would probably be the best place to look. Ive also got a tip on a really good way to keep people out of your truck. People used to screw around with my truck at school so i decided to do something about it. I went to Rad Shack and bought a 120db alarm for 5 bucks and i wired it up to the dome light. I then wired up a waterproof switch undernearth the body. Any one who open's the door will be greated to an ear peircing screech that they wouldnt want to put up with for more than 2 seconds.

One website may have all your needs...www.ebay.com
Just type in a search for "explorer cargo cover" or "explorer cd player." Also, the best bet for the break-ins is an alarm. I recommend a professionally installed aftermarket one, unless you are patient and good with wiring. Also, get the remote start and the pager, they are worth it!
Hope this helps.

Hey Guys

again thanks for the tips
I have tried ebay for ford radios but I cant seem to find any for the 96 model so Im asking will other years (97 up fit in that now gaping hole? <lol>

Beyond that I am not too worried about the break-ins i mean thats a downside of living in a highly urban environment and there is the alarm on there

but Ill keep trying

Sorry to hear about your truck getting broken into. I've had similar experiences - actually 7 of them. Not with my Explorer (because I won't have that till tomorrow), but with my old Honda. Literally the car was broken into 7 times in the past 5 years that I owned it. The only time the car was broken into that nothing was taken was when I had an alarm on it and also when the kids who broke into it got caught. Every other time they got the stereo. The last time they took everything, speakers, stereo, work tools. About 6 months ago my alarm broke and I never replaced it. Live and learn, but from my experices I'd definitely say an alarm is the way to go!

Good luck,

The radios from 95 to 98 or 99 fit fine , The wiring is the difference . You have to figure out if the X had premium sound , etc. before you can find the radio you need . The plugs are what gives the radio away . Check and see if you can take pics of the plugs and post them somewhere . If not you'll have a hard time with a factory radio .
Id just go with a aftermarket one if your able to wire it yourself . If not go to a local stereo shop and get it done . I wired in a nice double din CD player set-up . It has a Kenwood deck ontop and a Sony XE-744 EQ (Full DIN ) on the bottom . It fits , just barely . I ordered a kit from Scosche (spelling?) directly for the double DIN opening radio set-up .
My X has a factory Amp so with the Sony having RCA outs I had to make a harness (you can buy it but it's like 30 bucks) . I went to Radio Shack and to Circuit City for the parts . I got some RCA's - prewired with short cables on them from Radio Shack . I bought the radio install kit from Circuit City . I then soldered the RCA's to the plug for the speakers that plugs into your factory speaker to amp plug . Your supposed to use a Amp bypass cable assembly from scosche or another manufacturer for this set-up but I wanted to input low level from the Sony into the factory amp (just like the factory radio did) so I didnt bypass the Factory Amp . Once I made my RCA to factory amp harness I plugged it in . I was amazed at the sounds that the factory amp can produce . I still have the stock speakers in the doors but it sounds better than any factory set-up Ive ever heard . The Sony allowed me to set the thing to sound good . I can't wait to put in some non sucky speakers and try it out . Ill take some pics of the dash soon. It looks and sounds awesome . Mucho better than the stock radio that only had a cassette player + AM/FM .

Plugs!

Ok Most likley you have 2 large flat plugs for your radio, unless the moron that installed the aftermarket cut them off! if you do have the 2 flat plugs you can get AM/FM/Tape w/CD Changer controls. The newer models have 2 square plugs, and they are AM/FM/CD w/CD changer contols..... I may have a radio for you if you want it, It would be the flat plug style, I will check tonight. Actually, I can get you the Square plug style too! let me know what it is, and i'll see if my friends want to sell their stock radio's.....
