Tire help on a 99 Exploer Sport....

Okay. Im in serious help for tires. I currently have the Firestone Wilderness ATS's but its not the one on recall, anyways, my parents still want me to get new tires so this is what im looking for.

A set of off-roading (mostly for snow)/highway tires that will fit with stock rims. Someone told me that the Super Swampers SSR 29x11.5 15 will fit, and others told me that those are too big. Which bring me to another question. Whats the biggest size i can put with out any lift kits or mods?

thanks andre

You should be able to put on 31 x 10.50 15's.

Since you would be driving a lot of highway I would get some AT's instead of swampers. BFG KO's would probably be the best unless you are short on cash like me then I recommend pireli scorpion AT's. They are a good tire and I got them for $35 less than the BFGs. As far as rubbing I am not positive on stock because I have extended shackles and a little torsion lift, but I read on this site of people putting them on stock and it was fine.

stock is fine with very minor mod

Yea i just got 265/75-16 AT KOs (31)s and new AR Neptunes. There was rubbing at full lock when I drove off the lot. When i got home I took a hack saw blade too a little piece of plastic in the front inner fender wells. Now its no problem. When I get a lift next year this should be gone. I would think with 15" ATs it should be no problem.

whats at "full lock"?

Imagine doing a u-turn. thats full lock.

tire types

thanks guys for the help. now i know what size to
get, 31x10.5 15. I just went to some local tire shops and looked for BFG's MT, there asking for about $700, Is that too much?? I aslo went to another tire shop, they didnt have the BFG's but instead they had Goodyear MT/R's. there a couple bucks cheaper. Which ones more reliable for the money??

Scorpions

I finally got my tires. I ordered some BGF KO's but apparently all the distributors are out of stock in the San Jose area. So instead, I purchased the Pirelli Scorpion A/T 31x10.50 15. For about $470 I got a rugged look and, I ride about an inch higer than stock. So far Im happy but we'll soon see how they stand up to the forces of nature.

Cool! I found my ride to be a little more bouncy with the inch taller BFGs. I think it might have to do with the air pressure which ill look into. Now im debating getting new shocks. Welp enjoy your new tires!

I just put the 31's on mine about two weeks ago. The only problem I've had was some rubbing on the bumper cover when backing up with the wheel turned. A few minutes with a razor knife took care of that.

anymore pics?

I had that same problem, but its no biggie now.

Okrazie1,
Hows your ride with the shocks? Cause I've also noticed that my ride just with 31's are pretty bouncy too. Will the shocks help the bouncy-ness? Also Im thinking of getting dual exaust, but im not sure if its worth it. Whats everyone's opinion on this? One more thing, keep the pictures comming! Thanks

andre

I had changed the shocks before I changed the tires, but I can tell you that the new shocks give me a more controlled ride. The rear end used to scatter over rough pavement, but it doesn't do it much now. I really didn't notice any difference in the ride when I went to the 31's.
