Need advise on MY smoothie bumper ;-)

Makes no difference to me. I donated money to the site for a new server and I pay money for elite explorer, that is enough.

Cheap as I am I have no regret paying another $25 for it. It's all good! :D

well, i have this great idea and i'm going to be trying it one of these weekends soon. however, i don't know if it will work and i'd look like an idiot posting about it and having it fail. also, i really would like to be the only one with it done at least for a little while.

i think i know what you're gonna do, and im almost positive it will look good.

What is up with all these secret stuff? You can't tell us you have something in the works and not reveal it. Its against the Forum Rule # 456 section V.

:p :D

alright, but don't expect any pics of it for about two weeks. i am going to do my center console first and have to rip out my stereo and install it in mknotts truck. also, if my new subs and stuff show up expect progress on it to halt for a month or two while i install all that (svr 8012 battery for the rear, mtx 1501 amp and two 9500 15s-- shoudl bump nicely and show up those w7 lovers unless they have 3 13w7s or more:D with plenty of sq too)

so here is the plan- remove the bumper, and take off the pad and the airdam, fill the middle hole with wood (temporary) wrap with fleece and fiberglass it. that will fill the middle hole, and all the mounting holes for the pad while also preparing it for paint. then i will remove the wood and reinforce that big hole from behind with a few layer of fiberglass matting. next i will mount up my air dam to that product and use matting and resin jelly to mold the airdam and bumper into one piece. then i just have to modify the brackets a little to mount the bumper a bit higher so it looks right. there is an issue with where to mount the license plate- but most likely i'll just do it the same way i do currently- although i may be making something out of glass to mount it in a cleaner manner.

james i know you already knew the plan i think so i figured i might as well post it.

anyone have any ideas about how to improve my plan? i haven't yet determined how i will wrap the fleece tightly around the bumper since you can't use a stable gun to attach something to steel... that isn't a major problem though, anyone think of anything that won't work?

think it will look good? prepare the front for the flame job and complement the rollpan eh? after those two things the exterior will be declared done and ready for paint.

Damn! And I thought I had work in front of me. Looking at your work so far its very possible that you could pull that off and make it work. Good luck! :)

One thing though, aren't you afraid that someone will back in to your bumper and crack the fiberglass. All it would take is one good bump from someone parallel parking in front of you.

or a curb i suppose

Idiots like that Pi$$ me off!

Thats my fear with one-off custom stuff, especially the stuff that u build yourself ands spent hours upon hours on!.

2 days ago - Not more than a month after getting all my trim monotoned and what not.. some jerkoff backed into my front bumper trying to parallel park and cracked my front bumper and now the paint is peeling where the crack in the bumper is!
And the dude had the nerve to just take off and not leave insurance.. the fugger probably didnt have insurance.. i wish i had been there when it happend! i would have broken his legs with a baseball batt. (or just give him an earfull.

Neways.. Expo5.0- your idea sounds really cool, but alot of work.. but you put lots of work into your ride all the time so it wont be any different.
I have no clue how u can tack the fleece down tight enough.. especially since *as u said* u cant just use a staple gun. to bad they dont make a fleece to metal epoxy :-)

I thought of molding the HC airdam with the stock bumper but because of the reason above I decided against it. Now I am playing with the idea of somehow fitting a larger size fog lights (4.5+") in the air dam. Kinda like the Subaru WRX baha look. Any thoughts on this? Would it be tacky looking? Would I stray away from having a sports truck look?

If you put baha style lights on your truck you will have a baha style looking truck.

I wouldnt do it... unless you want that look.

I see what you mean, Chris.

Since there are no volunteers, I will try to photochop this thing myself and see what it would look like in body color. May God help me. :D

Couldn't do the photochop :( so what a guy to do- just primer the whole damn thing black and call it a day. :D
