Need feedback for subwoofer upgrades

Hello,

I have a system comprised of the following:

Head Unit:
Pioneer DEH-4000

Amplifiers:
US Acoustics USX4065
US Acoustics USX800D

Speakers:
1 pair of CDT Audio CL-61
1 Pair of Pioneer 6x8s for the rear fill

Subwoofers:
2 Pioneer 12" TS-W304DVC



I'd like to upgrade the subs. I'm thinking 1 15". Budget is not really an issue, but I'd like to make the most of my current amplifier, unless you guys thing it is crappy.

JL Audio W7s scare me. You might be able to break the glass in your truck with it. Though you wouldn't be feeding it near as much power as it could handle.

Talk to expo5.0. He can hook you up with a good deal on an MTX 8500 or 9500 series sub.

when did MTX subs become good?..they were always garbage when i was looking into buying my stuff a few years back and prior to that

i like the mtx subs for the money over jl certainly.

also a single jl is not gonna break any windows... lol.

if you want one sub with that amp i would run a mtx 8500 15" for sure.

there are plenty of other subs that i think are great (everything from elemental designs to kicker has something to offer) but out of them all i think the 8500 15" with that amp will probably be the best combo.

however- make sure you get a proper box for it. I've built the mtx recommended ported box (as they show in the manual for the subs) and didn't find it to be all that great.

for example with my subs (9500 15s)I ended up with a 9.00 cubic foot after all displacement box tuned to 32 hz for three of them for my "sq" 5.1 surround/show off type bass system in my truck. I couldn't imagine being happier than i am with my box. It is not at all what they recommend though.

and IF you really want to retain that hu you need to get a nice x-over as soon as possible. I run audiocontrol stuff, but even a much cheaper one would really make an amazing difference. Don't expect to be happy without one.

the 4-channel amp already has a crossover built in.

Would you be able to help me build a box for a 15"? I know a little bit about vuilding them and WinISD, but I want to do it right.

What's a 15" MTX8500 go for, new?

i like the cheaper RE stuff (the ones you have the right power for), but it doesn't stand out as "better"

I would still get an external x-over. although i don't know the slope the internal ones in your amps have, many amps i install have them (very few dont' these days) and i'm never happy without an external one that i can remember.

I think a big problem there is all RE's stuff is dual 2 ohm coils.

I guess MTX it is, I just haven't heard much about them.

i think you can get the re's in your price range/rms range with other vc configurations when you order them.

you won't be disappointed in the mtx.

Dual 2 Ohm isn't a problem usually, if you're wiring 2 subs together it takes both subs as as single one for impedence purposes, and most things are 4 Ohm. That being said you could just wire both voice coils if you're only using 1 sub and it'd be 4 Ohm. As far as I know the lower your impedence the better anyways. But I'm not positive, all the impedence stuff is still a little biut confusing for me.

hm, an MTX8500 seems to be around $400. a little more than I wanted to spend

If you bought two subs that handle 300 watts each, in 10"-12" size, it will cost $200-$300 each and they will not be as good of a sub as one on the level of the 8500 series.

I have two 12" that I got for $70 each, they handle 300wrms

I can get a 18" x.. for $400
