yes, 5.0
so far the reading im doing about these obx seems they break apart from the heat in no time :(

That's from a case mentioned in the OBX thread. Many forums are claiming great results from OBX on many different applications. Sure you are going to have bad apples in the bunch somewhere. I've had figment issues from Hedman, Cyclone, Blackjack, Patriot, and yes...even Hooker. I've never personally used, or even seen a set of OBX headers, but there are only 2 options for your Ex. 5.0...they are OBX and Torque Monster. The OBX are an obvious Chinese knockoff of the TMs, but for half the cost. TM is also nearing impossibility to aquire.

once i pull the engine ill look to see if i can modify the surroundings to accommodate mustang shorties, Im a metal fab shop, so sky's the limit.

The biggest hurdle in mustang shorties is they are normally for the E7 5.0HO heads. Our Explorers use the GT40 or GT40P heads. You'll want to try with a set for GT40 heads...same as Cobra. You can always replicate the TMs, if you have the tools and skills.

Great info, thanks.
Im accustomed to old 302's and now 4.6 4v's
I didnt even know ford screwed around with this (Again :-)
Actually, if you want to see variations on non compatible parts, play with the 4.6 series! Just put one in a 69 mach1

Yes off topic, but you may like it.

thx

The link isn't showing any pics.

You can be as off topic as you want...its your thread.

It isn't off topic for me, I'm a proud owner of my 1st car...1970 Cougar XR7 M code. I'm guessing the shock towers were 86ed and a possible M2 front suspension was used. It's hard enough to get headers to fit (and FLOW) in an early coug'stang with a 4V Cleveland.

Thats the next car on the rack, a 68 cougar, it too will get an IFS and 4.6 cobra .

I gave the empty folder link, here is the correct one.

I don't think any of them had the P heads, they were more used on Lightnings with the 5.8 Windsor. I believe the 93-95 Cobras had the standard GT40 heads. Both the P and non P heads have the same exhaust port and bolt pattern, along with plug angles.

I looked under the hood just now, the main issue I see is the steering rod in the way of using mustang headers, is this the only drawback?
If so that is easily remedied.

Drivers side...I think the steering shaft, motor mount and all of the fluid lines behind the heat shield on the frame rail. If I remember correctly, there may be fuel in that area.

Passenger side...is mostly motor mount and starter. It also has the EGR bung on that side.

The 2 availible aftermarket options offered are designed to bolt right in and up to the factory exhaust in the factory location. Anything is possible with fab skills and tools, especially if the exhaust is getting modified as well.

I just found an 05 explorer for 500 bucks, 6cyl needs timing. I should grab it, right?
make another good winter car

Since you're handy with mechanics, you can probably handle whatever the problems are. The question is, how much loot and time do you want to spend for the end result? The engine has to come out of the truck to do the rear chain. You can also do a later model mustang 4.0 swap into the Ex. Do some web search and you'll find those that have.

Ah, thats why, i see a bunch of 05's locally real cheap, seems to be the chain on all of them, Who the hell would put a chain in the rear ! :-)

Ford. Go figure.
