So last night, somebody tried to steal my 1991 explorer. They completely tore the ignition housing to shreds. Nothing left. Do I need a new steering column, just a ignition housing? I have no experience with ignition or steering problems. Thanks guys. (Won't let me post pics)

You are going to need pics. Upload to photobucket, then click the IMG link and post it here. So did they rip out the key cylinder, wires, or just the plastic covers? Can you still start it? You probably don't need a new steering column. I've replaced mine before because the linkage to the auto transmission rusted and broke. How rusty is your vehicle? I got a new column for $50 but I would expect up to $100.

Here r the pics-2stroke...they ripped out just about everything, but all the wires r intact, undamaged. The door chime wire? (Not sure if that's the correct term for it) is still usable as well. It still starts just fine. I found the little copper gear on the floor and I just slide that in , make sure its aligned with those teeth an use a screwdriver. I just don't wanna mess up them teeth in case they r salvageable. The explorer isn't all that rusty, just dirty an mean. Mostly engine coolant all over the motor. Had a water pump leak, replaced it the day before I went to work. And an exhaust least, bout it.

Yep, if you want a key to start it, you need a new column.
