Hi guys, I'm newly registered but have been coming here for a while now.

So a little while ago my shift lever broke off in my hand. I've already read about that here and see its happened to a few others. I've already ordered the part and seem to be doing just fine manually pulling and pushing the rod/cable to shift. That's not my problem right now, the problem is that I completely destroyed my key the other day. The chip is still ok though. Don't ask how, it was stupid. Anyway I had a minor emergency today and needed to get my car started right away so I grabbed my drill and dremel and cut out the ignition switch. The casted housing wasn't damaged but the tumbler was toast. I taped the chip part of the key to the sensor and am using needle nose pliers to get her started. Everything works as far as me being able to drive now but I'm wondering if I can replace the ignition switch. If I can how would I get my new key programmed. I'm thinking about just replacing the entire steering column. Any thoughts?

PS I know it was stupid to tear it out but I was under a bit of pressure and did what I had to.

Buy a new switch, such as ECH KS6742L (NAPA,) then take it to an Ace hardware with the old transponder. They should be able to clone the transponder.

I'll get on that first thing in the morning. Thanks man.
