I have a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac that I desperately need help with. First in locating the problem and second on how I can get it fixed without taking it to the dealership. I have been laid off work and can't afford any expensive repair charges. I have been without a vehicle for about 2 months now.
The day this happened I got in and tried to start it and it did attempt to start but it I could tell it was turning over slower than normal. After 2 tries it stopped and would not do anything. Not even make a sound when the key was turned. Just nothing. The radio and lights still worked. I bought a new battery and still nothing. I had it towed to a shop for repairing. All I got was a $200.00 repair bill and truck still not fixed. They said I needed to take it to the dealer. Something about the PATS module. I had noticed that the anti theft light was blinking a lot faster than it usually did. In the past I had problems with my brake lights not working and finally figuring out the cause was the tilt steering. When in a certain position the brake lights do not work. Could this have anything to do with my current problem?

ifs it the pats system , you could be in for a battle. I am not sure this applies for the sports trac, but the contour guys sometimes have to bypass the pats and run a power wire from the battery to the starter ( or some variation of that) when the pats system disables the starter.
