today I was idling in my 04 explorer 4.0 for about 30 minutes while waiting on wife's truck at discount tire, and all of sudden truck stalled! I go to start back up and it starts but dies immediately! I ended up getting it towed home. I scanned it and got 8 codes, first main code was p0191 and all the others were like misfire codes. After research I think my fuel rail sensor got heat soaked and failed! I went and got new sensor but am having 2 problems, first I cannot remove that metal egr? Tube? Went I yank on it the whole manifold twist and am afraid of breaking something! Does this HAVE to come off? And 2nd, I cannot find the #8 intake bolt in the back? I keep stabbing for it but keep missing! Any tips? I'm at a standstill till I figure this out. Thanks guys!

Have you manually checked your fuel pressure? Can you hear the pump running. Could be that pump just died. I would manually check psi compare it to what sensor reads if you have access to scan tool

No, I haven't checked pressure, I don't think 04s have a shrader valve and I don't have the tee fitting that ford uses to check pressure. I'm hoping it's the sensor since they are known to fail when old and exposed to heat soak. My luck though it's fuel pump. When running truck was going into limp mode, would stay running with Rpm's around 2k, but would stall when let off the accelerator, not sure if dead fuel pump would do this?

More than likely not then if it was running like that. Did you get the upper off yet? I would use your cell phone camera to video with flash to see the last bolt if you haven't located it yet.

Also if you can't unscrew the egr tube unbolt it from the intake by the two 10mm iirc

Thanks will try again this morning! And I tried looking for last bolt with light, but can't fit my big head or hand behind to feel for it. Haha. The phone trick is a good idea! I'll keep stabbing for it!

I have to do this time to time at work makes you want to shoot the "geniuses" that design this stuff might look good on computer but in real life lol not made to be worked on. Good luck and keep at it. :)

Ok I really need help now!!! Replaced sensor and it started right up drove 10 ft and stalled! Pushed back infront of my house and and tried to start it, it was doing exact same thing as yesterday! It starts and stalls immediately, after close observation, it stalling the second my odometer goes to -----------, I scanned it and am getting p0606 which is a pcm error code! Makes since cause I noticed a pcm code yesterday too in the mix of a lot of other codes, but am only getting that 1 code now. I don't have much money to spare so I'm kind of worried! Can I take pcm off and send it to ford and have them check it? I already tried swapping the pcm fuse, relay, and pcm diode, nothing changed! Anything else I can do?

Ford cannot check the pcm. They will just charge you then say yeah it's bad. What type of scanner do you have?

I have the Bluetooth kind that links to my torque Pro app, it reads a lot!

I was going to say you could try a kam reset but I doubt it will do that but I don't see how they can program the key to the pcm just my .02 I think you will have to visit the dealer for the key to be identified by pcm. That being said I'd say you could go to local yard and pull one and come out cheaper.

Also if you found one that had key you could try it see if it fixed it yourself no dealer involved. Take the computer and key cylinder pop out your lock cylinder pop in the jy one with the jy pcm

So if I can only find pcm, I have to get dealer to program key still?

Yes because of pats system. Otherwise theft light will flash no starter and no injector pulse

I just hope it's pcm, I don't want to throw $300 more at it and pcm not fix it, not sure what to do here.
