hey guys need your help and info quick...

i have a limited amount of time to buy a mp3 player for my X. I was thinking of buying a Alpine CDA-9815 but the price isn't right. So i found a Kenwood KDC-MP922 and a Kenwood KDC-X679 for $329.95 each. I was just wondering which is the best choice. Any help will be appreciated i kinda need as much info as possible before Wednesday the 4th b/c my cd player has been stolen and i need to replace ASAP, and the offers for the units are only good for Wednesday with free next day shipping.

Thanks, Cory

from the looks of both models I would go with the Kenwood KDC-MP922. The other does not have an aux input for external devices (unless I missed it in the specs) and does not have a dedicated sub preamp output. You can only switch the rear to non-fading which would leave you without a rear set of outputs. It mainly has to do with what you want your system to be like. With the Kenwood KDC-X679 you will not be able to add a video source for tv's(PS 2), unless you get a FM modulator. You also are limited to 2 amps. Either front and rear or front and sub. I like have seperate amps for front, rear and sub, but like I said it is up to what you want to do with it

I like the excelon line better myself (x679). They have higher preamp output voltage which is VERY important in any system. When I upgraded from a deck w/1.8V preouts to 4V preouts it made a world of a difference in the sub output!

The only thing I look for when buying a deck is at least 4V preouts (you'll thank yourself later) and a preamp... and of course looks.

I have 3 preouts on mine but only use 1 because I pipe it straight to my equalizer with 8V preouts :D

Just a few thoughts. And I looked up the x679 and it does have 3 sets of preouts if you don't want an equalizer.

Oops, just looked up the MP922 and that also have 5V preouts!!!! I think they're closely spec'ed, go with the one you like better in the looks category. Personally I don't like what kenwood did with their always half-hanging-out faces these days...
