- 1996 Ford Explorer
Hi, I'm new here, and I honestly don't know much about cars. I have a 96 explorer, and the fuel pump recently died. Our resident car guys are off in Alaska for the summer, so we sent the car to a shop in the neighborhood. I don't know how good a mechanic this guy is, but when he dropped the fuel tank, he broke some fiddly little part. First he said it was a spring that he needed to order from Ford. But when that came, it wasn't right. The part is a small metal ring that sort of looks like a crown, but has only four prongs. Each prong has a hole in it. He didn't seem very clear on the name of the part, but I think he called it a clip. The point is that without it the car will leak fuel, and according to the mechanic, Ford doesn't make it anymore. Can anybody tell me the actual name of this part and maybe where I can find a replacement? Car's been dead for 2 weeks, I'm gonna go stir-crazy soon!
