My explorer has left me stranded (sp.). It starts but it seems that it wont hold idle. Imagine the crank then it revs up a little then the RPMS drop right away to 0 and the car shuts off.

Anyone have any ideas? Would the MAF do this, should i clean the MAF? reset the battery...please guys i need to get my car fixed so i can go to work.

Thanks Brian

Try pressing on the gas a little to keep it running until it warms up.

IAC valve. Try a search if you need more info on it.

I am searching and would prefer to just clean it (the IAC). Can someone direct me to a thread or hopefully pictues and a procdure of what i need to do to fix this?

What are some good cleaners?

Whats it held in by?

Cleaning is usually just temporary anyways. I would just say replace it.

Its attached by 2 bolts and has one electrical connection.

Ford Part number anyone for a 2000 SOHC 4.0 IAC? Is ford the best place to get it...sometimes aftermarket is better because they fix things that are inherently wrong with initial designs, then again sometimes OEM is best.

Contact Torrie at Fordpartsnetwork.com he has good prices and will know the exact number.

Alright got it cleaned, car is all better. Now when i had the part off there is the obvious part going into the plenium that i cleaned very well. What about the "front of the piece" the part closer to the electrical connection. Do i need to try and open this part somehow to clean further inside of it?

Gratefully i am not strained anymore though.

Honestly I would look into buying a new one! Take these peoples' advice. Lots of people on here have had failing IACs, and very few actually got to simply clean them and call it a day. I would get a new one!
Just my 2¢

I second that.

I checked on prices yesterday for IAC at Fordpartsnetwork and was quoted $94.99 plus $7 freight. I thought that this was a $50 part based on previous posts ?

What year?

YU3Z-9F715-AA Genuine Ford IAC valve $ 52.99

Plus $7 freight

was my quote.

Different years changed the valve slightly.

I have a 1996 xlt
