I believe the front seal can be problematic. Opera House is the resident A4LD pro... might want to ask him.

I just had my front seal go, a piece broke of the torque converter and puntured the seal. $1100.00 to fix both.

that was a shop. I think labour was close to $500.00. I was lucky though I had an extended warranty so I only paid $207.00 of that. I hope it's not as much for you.

Was the tranny very hot when it dumped the fluid? You might be able to get away with filling it up, and just adding small amounts to it every 2 weeks or so....Try adding some fluid now, if it doesn't come out, then you can still drive it around, and just add fluid when it gets low....I have done that in the past.

All of this is temporary though...the seal will stilll be blown, but the tranny will still be useable until you can get it fixed.

How hard is it to change this front seal ?? and is this something i can buy from a store like autozone or discount auto parts ???

PEACE

The seal itself is something like $10. Changing it is another thing....The whole tranny has to be removed, and chanced are, the torque converter has to be replaced...This has happened twice to mine....

Caleb, where is the fluid coming from?
We used to use a shop called SOS automotive on hillsborough, I know a guy there named Rich, and he is really nice... but honestly, good tranny guys are few and far between. He did refer me to a bodyshop guy that repaired my car, and that guy did a simply fantastic job, so I will ask him where he thinks a good t-shop is, but he may just say their shop.
Also, I would try to pin this down on the board, and then get everything you need to fix it yourself, that way all you pay for is labor.

I know that they have been kbnown to loose the seal at the rear extension housing also. I think it is the result of a bad tranny mount and the vibration just breaks the seal between tranny and t-case. Much easier fix if this is the case.
