need help removing roof rack on a 04

Ok so today i saw a dropped 03 explorer red also w/o the roof racks and i think it looks pretty nice. Gives it a clean look. SO i want to try and see how it looks on mine but i'm afraid of breaking something and then not liking how it looks.

Any help will be appreciated.

The ends are just caps and pop off. There is 2 bolts under each end, then 2 in the middle of the racks. Take the ends off first, then if I remember correctly, the unit will slide and you can get to the other 2 bolts. Very easy to do, just gotta get into it. It does take a Torx type screwdriver, can't remember what size though. Good luck

i was thinking about doing this also but how big are the holes and will they leak if not plugged somehow?

Yes they will leak if you leave the bolts out. Just put the bolts back in after you take the racks off and you will be fine. Then hit them with a little touch up paint. It will look much better.

i just tried to pop off one of the ends and i think i broke a peace that holds it on how exacley do they pop off with out breaking ?? just incase i have to put it back on

FYI - putting it back on is a whip. Or at least it was for me today. I couldn't get the caps back on. Turns out, you have to get the yellow nubs out that the caps clip onto, and slip those onto the caps, then you can pop it back together. I was about to commit suicide until I figured this out!

nevermind i answered my own question the middle peace have a cap on it too that peace just popped off and the bolts were right there got mine off ill take pics in a few min
