Need help running power wire

I got a 1992 explorer I’m just wondering if anyone has done a sub setup with 1 gauge wire and where they ran the wire I’m going from the battery under the hood to the back of the suv I was thinking about drilling a hole in the fire wall but I don’t really know where I should or if I should. Any help works.

There's already going to be the hole where the wires from the power distribution box, come in to the interior fuse box. Whether there's clearance in there for 1 ga. wire, I don't know. Otherwise I'd just put a new hole near the other hole, driver's side and exiting behind the dash.

If you do drill a hole, I'd put a rubber grommet in it. Measure wire OD, get a grommet with ID slightly smaller, put grommet on wire before putting into new hole in firewall. A little silicone grease on the wire will help move it through the grommet to take up slack while routing it. Sensor safe black RTV will help seal the grommet against the firewall sheet metal. It might be easier to pack some of the RTV sealant into the grommet's outer channel before installing it in the firewall hole.

For the rest of the run to the rear, I'd see if there's clearance in the trim covers over the rocker panels to run the wire. If not, I'd consider a little higher gauge wire and a stiffening capacitor next to the amp.

I’m on 4 gauge right now but I have it ran down the passenger fender well under the truck and into the truck through a water drain on the bottom but even with a high capacitor next to the amp I’ll will light the 4 gauge on fire I’m running 2000 watts at the moment and will be going up to 8000 over next winter

I have a rear battery in my 1988 van. I used Liquidtite flexible conduit & fittings. Everything is sealed in water resistant tubing.

You can buy a bulkhead terminal and just run the cable along the frame to the back then come through the floor to your sub/electronics. Seal it up with some RTV and you don't have to worry about cable chafing either. I have an auxiliary battery in the back and did it this way to run power to multiple power ports and electronics I use.
