My daughter has a 93 Explorer with a 4.0l v6. The car idles just fine, but when you quickly accelerate from a stop the car will not go faster than 15MPH. If you rev the car it will stumble and not go past about 1500 RPM. However if you slowly accelerate it will go to 6000 rpm. On the highway at 60MPH if you step on the accelerator is will stumble and decelerate as long as the pedal is on the floor, but if you let off it will begin running fine. I changed the fuel filter and I am going to work on the Injectors, and ignition next. I'm stumped. I searched this forum and could not find the same problem. Any advice or direction in this forum would be appreciated. Thanks

...welcome here...do a search for fpr or fuel pressure regulator...:D

Related question: Where is the fuel pressure regulator and would a "fuel cap" warning light indicate the same problems? Mine has similar symptoms to Scott's.

Check your plug wires.

fixed it

After searching and taking the advice of all of you I have fixed it very easily. I renoved the Mass airflow sensor on the outlet of the aircleaner box and looked at it. There was a bit of dirt and grime on the two filaments. I sprayed them with carb cleaner and reinstalled it. Now the problem is gone...good as new. It is amazing that that those 2 small filaments can cause such problems. Thanks for all of your prompt response..Scott
