need help trans shifting problem

need help i have 96 for explorer and the trans shift till 3rd gear not going on 4th ..can any one tell me what could be the problem plz.

Welcome to this forum! Adjust the overdrive band to start. Sometimes the servo pistons dry out, and leak. You might have to replace the piston if this is the problem. The computer uses sensors to calculate when to go into overdrive, so it could be the TPS, ECT, MAF, VSS, etc. Do you have any stored trouble codes, flashing overdrive light or a check engine light? How many miles does it have?

well i bought the explorer today and it have 290 km on it.and yes the check engine light is on.can you tell me where is the servo piston is?do you have diy for that plz?how to check the trouble codes by flashing...if you can send me the diy site that will be great.

The A4LD rebuild diary shows pictures of these servo pistons. Your 4R55E doesn't have a modulator like the A4LD, but the rest of the things are similar as far as the bands, band adjustments, and the location of the servos. You should get the codes read to find out what the problems are before replacing any parts.
