I have a 91 sport, 4.0 and a4ld. Truck ran fine and shifted great. Was driving into town one day and it shuddered a bit and about a 1/2 mile down the road had to stop at a stop light. When I stopped the truck ran a little rough, when I went to take off it died, started right back up, but when put in gear it died again and again. Got it pushed off the road and trailered home. When we got it home, we found a vacuum line off the tree, reconnected it and that solved the rough idle problem, put the rear of the truck on jack stands and it shifted fine and the wheels were spinning freely, determined it to be the TC.

Now we have replaced the TC and the Vacuum modulator (it had completely blown the line off) and various other things that broke during the tranny removal or needed replacing anyways. Got it all back together last night and the D*** thing still won't go!!!

Is it possible to have gotten a bad TC? We are sure the pin was in the modulator. Have been reading with some interest about the tps and problems it can cause, we did the test and it shows within range on the signal side and on the reference side of the test it shows low 4's and the book says it should be a 5.0. could this be an issue?

Anyone have any suggestions? I'm hoping it's something simple at this point, we really need the truck next month and a tranny isn't in the budget til fall. Thanks!!!

I'd try a TPS. So what happens when you put it in gear, does it feel as if when you dump a clutch on an idling engine? it just flat clunks? Or does it stumble/stall?

Feels like dumping the clutch, no clunks and no stumble. Will get a tps today and see if that helps.
