Hi Everyone, I am going to go and look at a 96 Explorer 2-door 4 x 4 SUV with the 4.0 V6 this afternoon. Even though there aren't any badges on the car I am thinking it might be the XLT because it has leather seats and the keyless entry keypad above the drivers door handle.
The owner says the only thing wrong with the car is the "airbag sensor light is on". I have been doing some research here and on YouTube to see how involved this might be and it looks like something I can handle but I have concerns about getting in over my head and my bank account. If it is an impact sensor in the front or rear bumper or if it is a seatbelt sensor under a seat I am OK with that but if it is in the airbag mechanism itself that might be another story entirely. I don't have the skill or the tools or the desire to de-activate the airbag and take the steering wheel apart. Here in the state where I live we have vehicle inspection and the air bag is an inspection item so I have to fix it if I decide to get the car.
Also, and the owner doesn't seem to know or care I want to know if the engine is the OHV or the OHC but I will find that out when I see the car.
Can anyone from their experience give me any ideas as to what I might be getting into? When I go to look at the car this afternoon I am going to count the blinks and then look it up when I get back to my condo. I have a feeling that will give me a better idea of what I am in for. Thanks everyone.
