Need help with 4X4!

I have a 1991 Ford Explorer with electronic 4X4 but it doesn't always work.When the car is sitting still and I hit the 4X4 switch it doesn't engage or light up.I noticed that if I get the car up to about 45mph,let off,and then hit the 4X4 button it works.Does anybody have any suggestions as to what I can do to fix this problem?

Well, you have up to 55 MPH to engage it. It sounds like the shift motor needs to be rebuilt. Search for shift motor rebuild. There is a thread on how to do it.
