Hi, Not sure if I posted this in right place and apologize for the lengthy descriptions, but here's the situation.

Problem 1:
Think something's up with brake-shift interlock; I'm unable to shift from park upon vehicle start up and applying the brake to shift, unless I go through the "override" method, which involves me having to put it in neutral after turning the key to the "On" position and applying the brakes, I believe, and then starting the vehicle from there, enabling me to freely shift smoothly. But once I shift it into park I have to go through that whole process again in order for me to shift from park. Checked fuses, swapped em with new ones, didn't fix it. Brake lights work/respond fine. Not entirely sure what else to check, nor how to go about fixing this issue.

Problem 2:

My turn signals stopped working a while ago, however the hazard lights work, not sure what's causing this or how to fix. Again swapped out fuses for new ones, got a new multifunction switch, and bulbs. Went and got the turn signal relay (EP-27), but cannot figure out how/where to get to the old one to swap em or if that'll fix it.

Specs of Explorer: 1999 XLT V6 SOHC 4x4

Hoping for any solutions to these problems. Any pictures or illustrations are welcome and appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Does the column shifter feel loose? The shift cable could simply be out of adjustment
There are plastic bushings in the steering column that get loose or deteriorate

You swapped the multifunction switch and still no turn signals?
Sometimes the Hazzard switch can get stuck in between spots. Try messing w the hazard switch and moving the tilt steering column around, do the signals start working?
The wiring behind the multifunction switch is first suspect

You guys realize you're responding to an 8 yr old post?

Lolllllllllll zombie threads strike again

IDK why, but it's SO easy to do that here! Usually it's us newbies, but actually I love seeing these old threads resurrected- So many of them are for 2nd gens, and if we haven't had that particular issue YET, it's likely to come up in the future!

So odd

I do it because each day I hit the “new posts” button and start scrolling. Sometimes these things pop up! At least somebody searching may find answers even if they are old threads
