Torsion Bars
Torsion Twist,,
Your front end travel stays the same befor and after a torsion twist, with one major difference. Lets say stock you have 8 inches of travel ( i dont know the actual but it must be around there somewhere) and the ride height is halfway between the upper and lower reaches, you would have say 4 inches of upwards travel, and 4 inches of downward travel. So you go off road and the front tyre can travel down 4 inches into holes etc to keep contact with the ground.
OK so now you do a 2 inch torsion twist, ( free, just crawl under truck and crank away) that raises the front end. That means you still have 8 inches of travel BUT you just used up 2 inches of the downward travel, so now you got 2 inches of downward travel and 6 inches of upwards travel. So now you go off road again and your front tyre can only drop 2 inches into holes to keep traction. The softness of the ride just changed from rough as a truck to rougher tahn you would ever want to tolerate. BUT ITS 2 inches higher. ( only in the front ) And now that your torsion bars are pretty much stressed out when you hit a bump the tyre trys to travel upwards but there is so much pressure that its really rough, BUT it could travel in theory 6 inches as the top STOP is 6 inches away. If the suspension hits something really hard and it actually travels the full 6 inches and hits to top STOP the pressure on the torsion bar will be very near breaking point, and it will break sooner or later.
OK For street if you like it that way, makes more room for bigger tyres, but not real good for off road use.
Get a body lift first and then decide if the more height is required. The tosrion twist can be done to look and try the ride quality and if you dont like it just put it back to where it was. remember to count the turns of the screw. Remember that if you want to keep it you must get a front end alignment done or your tyres will get trashed.
I will help you install your lift if you like, just bring your truck around or send me a Plane Ticket,,,
