ok im completely stupid when it comes to this stuff. im looking to get 2 Rockford Fosgate P2 2ohm DVS 12" subs... now what i do not know due to having an old friend install all my previous stuff is what amp I'll need to run them. I do not need to be able to compete in a competition. just to get good bass. here's a link for reference to sub specs. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

So i dont need a amp with 400+ watts? well thats why i asked lol. cool thanks.

The subs are 400w RMS 2 ohms. So I would get an amplifier that puts out no more than 900-1000w RMS x1 channel @ 2 ohms. B/c once you break it down to both subwoofers you would get 450-500w RMS x2 channel @ 2 ohms.

The amp in Coreys link will only send 125w RMS to each subwoofer once broken down. It never hurts to underpower your subs if you're on a budget though. If you over power them too much then you will burn out the sub.

EDIT: those subs you have are awesome.

the amp i linked ran with the bridged twice subs he says he wants will be way enough to fill an Explorer with real good bass,
he can bridged them like this to make the most of the amp,

True it will be plenty of bass. Rockford makes excellent stuff.

I just seen that while looking at the amp you posted Corkey. again thanks for the help guys.

I currently have a onx 1.1500d on my alpines pushing 1000w rms at 2ohms, and it fills perfect. it's a discontinued model but you could still find them on amazon I believe.

Well all of the audio shops around me will not sell me a amp unless it's at least 600 watts for the subs i want..... they said if i do not have enough watts i.e. 400 or less theres a chance for "clipping" and that's not goo for a sub. Is this true?

that's crap, clipping happens when the input to the amp is not good,, outgoing power to the right impedance will always work, they just want to sell you a more expensive amp is all,

My cousin says he may have 2 different power acoustiks i could buy off him these are what they supposedly are. What are your opinions?

I would follow Karpiel73's advice.

Here is a wiring diagram for a 2 ohm load...

Here is a wiring diagram for a .5 ohm load...

Might be tough finding an amp that can handle a .5 ohm load in mono.

I would look for an amp that would provide somewhere around 400 watts per sub. Over 400 would be good as well, and just set the gains at a lower setting.

I would pass on both of those Power Acoustik amps.

Look for an amp that is CEA-2006 Compliant. If that applies, then the wattage ratings should be accurate.

I love when amps "claim" some huge wattage, but their RMS wattage is small. I guess during testing that they do indeed put out that giant amount, but only the millisecond before meltdown, right after it is struck by lightning.

I am not saying those Power Acoustik amps do not put out that power. Maybe they do, maybe they don't. I think they do not.

Don't tip toe around it. In amps you get what you pay for. Do your research on brands and how accurate they rate their stuff. I have a JBL pocket amp rated for 770w and I'm about 98% sure it's a pretty true rating. Brands like Boss that you can buy at meijer that claim 204729174818w peak and 5w RMS are probably not rated to the highest degree of truth. If that offends anyone, I want to see a pic of a multimeter hooked up to your amp and the wattage. Thx :)

Yeah I'm just going to wait and get a matching amp from Rockford Fosgate.

Care to explain just what that statement means. Clipping happens when the input to the amp is not good?
