I recently installed a heated seat kit into my girlfriends explorer, and it seems that during the installation i must have blown a fuse or relay or something. I can't figure it out...

Here is what doesn't work:

Radio
Fuel Gauge
Rear Wiper
Hazards
Turn Signals
Brake Light
Interior Light
This is all that I can see not working, could be more.

Heres what does work:

Cluster lights
Interior light when car is not on
Front and Tail lights
12V Cigarette lighter
Car drives

Any ideas?? I checked every fuse in the fuse box under the dash. I also checked every cartridge fuse I could see in the fuse box under the hood. The only thing I can think of would be a relay.

Could I really have blown out a relay during the install? I was using a tester to test pins for 12V lines, maybe I accidently shorted 2 pins together or something?

Welcome aboard!! :salute:

Since you checked all the fuses, I would go after the connectors next. Check all connectors that you unplugged or were working near.

You could also disconnect the heated seats and see if everything goes back to normal. This would indicate a problem with the heated seats and/or the install.

What wires did you tap into? What wires did you check? What did you take apart? How did you wire in the switch?

I'm going to check my shop manuals for any info and will report back.

Good luck getting it sorted. :biggthump

Thank you and thanks for the response. The issue started before the heated seats were even wired or put in, somewhere along the line when I was trying to find a 12V source this happened.

What I just checked though, was the battery saver relay. I replaced that, and still nothing. I did notice however that the brake lights DO work. So what isnt working is:

Turn signals
Flashers
Radio
Fuel Gauge.

I am starting to think I might have disconnected something in the process. I took off the bottom panel under the steering wheel, and the AC/Radio controls panel. I didn't disconnect anything however, but perhaps something came undone? Is there something in particular i should look for or where I should look for it?

I would check everything in the areas you were working.

I will check my shop manuals now and will be in touch.

I need the year and model of the explorer in order to get you the correct info.................

Heres a question. On the fuse panel, the big yellow plug on the bottom that plugs in. Are those the output wires? I was trying to test some pins in there I am thinking maybe I damaged them or something. I will check it out tomorrow

Well, I fixed it. Turns out my dumbass didn't screw in the connector on the bottom of the fuse panel in far enough.... Man I feel dumb lol

It happens to all of us. Search for a thread titled "stupid is as stupid does" and you will see what I mean.

Feel free to make a post. You've earned it :p:
