Need help with installing a DVD Player

I am installing an Apex DVD player in my Car (Apex 1110-W) and I am wanting to take the infared sensor and put it on my dash or by my head unit. I have heard of this being done but didnt know how to go about doing it. I am planning on making a custom center console and i wont be able to see the sensor once the DVD player is installed thats why I want to move it so i can still use the remote control. Any help or questions is welcome.

How big is the sensor? Do you have a pic? What about putting it up in the dash, in the defrost pannel. That would work.

I dont have and end, but its about the size of the big end to a BIC pen.

Mine is a little smaller with a slightly different look.

I was going to take the case off and maybe re-arrange the board and disc drive the way I want.
