Hello there,
My 1998 V8, AWD is leaking Burned Differential oil from the Front Differential, Is there a escape line on top of the Differential? there is also a bad noise coming out of the Front Differential at 30-40MPH, I also need to know what is the Standard RATIO for all the V8 [1998], AWD, is it the same as the REAR? I know where to find the Ratio Code, off the Drivers side, but is that RATIO for both Front and REAR the same?
I'm thinking to Replace it for another one, if the Differential went out, or should I change the pieces inside the Differential is it bad? what is your recommendation, I can't drive like this, I have replaced the oil about 3 times but nothing, it Burns it fast and leaks.. HELP! what is bad? and if there is a way to disconnect the AWD? thanks a lot

There is a vent, it could be leaking if you have driven thru some high water.. More than likely its probably the pinion seal on it that is leaking. The ratio should be the same in the front as in the rear unless someone screwed up. Try opening the upper drain plug on the diffy and see if you can feel any fluid in the diffy..

And please don't post in the emergency forum unless it is truly an emergency.. per a post by the Moderator in charge of this forum..

Let me see if I can explain the purpose of this forum in better terms.

This forum IS for times when your Explorer is your only means of transportation and it isn't working, for whatever reason. For when you NEED your Explorer to move, and it unexpectedly won't. When you need to get to work, class, wedding, or funeral and your truck isn't cooperating. When you are in a "crisis" situation and you really need imediate help.

This forum IS NOT for times when you are in the middle of a mod/repair and want some help with it. Not for when your truck won't start and you really want to go over to your girlfriend's house. Not for when you really want to know what tires to order. Not for when a headlight goes out. Not for when you are looking to purchase an Explorer and want to know what to look for in it, or how to fix known problems with it.

From veiwing threads in these forums for quite awhile now, and seeing the types of threads that are posted, history shows that there should probably be 1-3 threads, that meet the criteria of this forum, posted per week. Yet, somehow, members have posted an average of three posts per day in this forum.

PLEASE only start a thread in this forum when your question meets the criteria of this forum. New threads should be started much less frequently than they are.

Hopefully, when members log on and see the little yellow Explorer icon next to this forum, they will take the time to look and see if they can help with the emergency situation. They won't do this if this forum gets flooded with non-emercency, general questions.

Let's keep this forum open for the purpose it was intended; helping each other out when we really need the help!!

Thanks!

Robb
