Ok I posted this awhile back and didnt get any replys. MY A/C blows out normal air, it doesnt ever get cold. The controls work fine just NO cold air. Its just normal air. The heat works great though. What could this be? An easy fix? I need my A/C help!

probably just low on freon. shouldnt be too expensive to just get a refill. mine was about 8 ounces low (blowing warm air), and i think the shop charged me about $15.00 per pound (i paid like $8.00 for mine.) that would be my guess, and probably the easiset to check and fix.

alright where can I take it to get freon

An automotive A/C shop. Unfortunately you will find out that your system has R-12 (or is it R-22?). Sometime around '94/'95 the production and importing of freon of old has been outlawed in most countries of the world. You can no longer legally buy the small 12/16 oz cans. There is also a huge tax on it and it can only be purchased by a licensed A/C dealer in a 50lb can. What does this mean to you? Prepare to spend big bucks to get it fixed. Legally a shop can't just put the old freon back in. Their feeling is that if you need freon, it had to leak out. They are obligated to fix the leak before putting in the freon. You also have the option of having your old system converted over to the newer R-134A. I'm not sure what is involved or how much it costs but I think it is mainly just new seals and o-rings and completely evacuate the rest of the old freon. I remember reading something about Walmart selling a conversion kit for the do-it-your-selfer. I doubt if it is too high. The R-134A cost me about $6 for the last 12oz can I bought at Checkers. The older freon will run 10 or 20 times that much now. 10 years ago it could be bought for about $2 or $3 a can.

I may convert then. My parents said they have had trouble with the AC and it has been repaired a couple of times over the last couple years.. but this used to be there car and I didnt keep up with it. I will look for the conversion kit thanks man,

I just had my 92 a/c recharged. My system holds 1.75 lbs. of freon and I was low 1 lbs. becuase I mysteriously blew most of mine out while idleing. And let me tell you, I could sure hear the freon escaping...sounded like a steam valve. Barry who does some of my work charged $60/lbs for the freon plus labor. Asked him what a new system would run and he said about $350. I hope I corrected the problem with the freon escaping by putting on a new fan clutch.

Price of Freon

On Sunday I replaced the t-stat on my wife's car (not an explorer) and like an idiot undid a bolt that was in my way without knowing what it is. As soon as I loosened the bolt all the freon in her car started shooting out. Had to have it vacuumed and recharged with 2 pounds of freon. Out the door $95. And if the EPA calls I'll be in Mexico.

im leaving for a trip on friday. i need a/c. how much will the walmart kit run me, and how do i get the old freon out, and how do i put the new in.
