2002 Eddie Bauer Explorer
I just got a 98 eddie bauer explorer the other day and didnt notice anything until i paid for it and was on way home. The tranny started slipping going into 3rd and i dont know if it goes into the next gear or not. The o/d light just came on or i just noticed it. I was wondering if anyone could let me know what you think is wrong with it and what i should do. Thanks

1: don't drive it like that, if the clutches aren't already fried continued use will take them out.
2: check the fluid level and condition, if the fluid is real dark and stinks be thinking where you are going to do the trans removal.
3: if possible pull trans codes for reference, it might help make sure all of the problems are fixed.

I had to add more fluid and it dont seem to be burnt. It seems as it dont want to shift into 3rd until u get up to speed. Do they charge to pull codes for trannys? I dont have a way to get it there to have it done unless i drive it. I hope it just need a filter change or something easy. The truck has 138k.

google the problem, TCCOA has plenty of info for the 4r70w
