need help

i was backing out of my drive way and when i turned i thought i hit something but did not so started to turn to drive forward my explorer did not want to turn it will go straight just fine can even swich lanes but no sharp turn not sure whats wrong it makes a popping sound and wines it tries to move but it doesnt what could be wrong because im not sure

Are you saying the steering wheel is hard to turn but the wheels do turn?

Are the front wheels pointing in the same direction?

Take it to a service shop for an inspection. Hopefully you know an honest place.

There can be multiple reasons for this to happen, and any of them can be dangerous to you or others. Since your posting this here, and admit you do not have the knowledge to figure this out, I doubt you could properly describe the issues for someone here to give you a proper diagnose.

No offense, but when that issue happened, and you still drove it in public afterwards, tells me your not understanding the severity/consequences of an issue like this. Play it safe, and have it looked at by a professional, and get it repaired AFTER you know the problem.
