Need ideas?

I've done some searchs and haven't found what i'm looking for.

I have a 93xlt 4x4 currently running 31/10.5-15 bfg at's, and am going to be doing signifigantly more freeway driving. I'm thinking that i'd like to give up all offroading with this truck and concentrate more on handling.

So all that being said here's what i'd like to do:
Using my existing factory wheels put on an aggresive low profile tire that will still give me decent traction in the winter. I'm thinking BFG Radial t/a's 265/50-15

please give me your ideas and pics if you have them

price is an issue so extravigance is not a possibility

thats gonna be a lot of wheel gap youre gonna have there, unless you lower it too. if you want good handling, you dont need a ton of money. heres what youll need, and ill list in descending order of what will make the most difference.

1) shocks
2) tires
3) swaybars
4) lower the truck

oh, and i just noticed you want to do this on 15" rims? its gonna look really goofy. with that small of a tire sidewall on there, compared the hugeness of the explorer, itll look like youre running 4 donut tires on there, heh.

if you want my opinion, i think you should get some 16" rims (you can get stock 16" teardrops or the chrome tri-stars from someone on this board or ebay for a reasonable price, and if you sell your rims, itll offset the price even more.) then get some 60 or 65 series tires, like some 255 65 r16's (bill kemp has them on a truck thats lowered 1 3/4".) i also think you should drop the truck 1-2". itll look great, handle great, and all of that wont cost you an arm and a leg. just my thoughts - there are a million options for what you wanna do.

i just lowered mine 2" about 2 weeks ago and have not yet done anything else with it. I am getting all the goods to go w/ it soon. but the lowering was only like 30 bucks from autozone, and about 2 hours of time doing the install.

Your 93 is totally different than the 95+ explorers. It only costs $30 to lower a 95+ because all you need is blocks. The front is just a matter of loosening the torsion bar bolts. For the first gens, you have to get drop coils and I think something else but its not easy like the newer ones. You should do sway bars, 17" wheels, and shocks. Maybe even change the bushings on the sway bar links.

if you get white letter performance tires that have flatter tread you can keep your 15's and get a stock size tire.....that will look good and then go w/ the shocks and sway bars....theres not much to do on the first gen's as far as lowering unless you want to spend a lot of money
