Started to put new rear drum brakes on my 91 Explorer and I got the right side apart O.K. Put everything back on but I'm having a problem getting the break shoes to come together at the top where it meets the stud. It acts like the brake cyclinder is holding them apart. My question is: do you have to compress the brake cyclinder on the rear drum brakes like you do the calipers on the front disk brakes? I took the left side hub off so I could match everything up and they look the same. I can't get the hub back on without getting the break shoes closer at the top stud......Thanks for any and all help....Larry

Try opening the bleeder screw. If this does't allow the shoes to compress enough, check the e-brake spreader bar and make sure it isn't snagged on something that is causing it to hold the shoes apart.

Thanks mrboyle,
The e-brake spreader bar was hung up and not letting the shoes go closed. Now I have new breaks all the way around.......Thanks again Larry
